People are aging prematurely today due to the unrelenting and chronic nature of stress.  Knowing where you are and what you need is the FIRST step to reducing stress. Most people under rate the effect stress is having on them.

Why wait until you have an illness or a health challenge before you take charge and manage your stress. The first step is identifying and acknowledging what you are experiencing so you can set up a program to manage the stress!  Often you can't change what is happening - however you are in control of how you deal with it! This in itself provides some stress relief. What you tell yourself about what is happening in your life makes all the difference in your stress level. Stop the vicious cycle.

  1. How would you rate your stress level? 
  2.  Is this typical?  Yes/No
  3. Do you tend to worry?
  4. Do you find yourself "awfulizing"?
  5. Do you tend to exaggerate what happens and make it a catastrophe?
  6. When someone asks you to do something, do you feel put out?
  7. When something good happens, do you consider it luck? 
  8. When something good happens do you give yourself credit for it? (The response 'Not usually' is a 10, 'Sometimes' a 5 and 'Yes' is scored 0)
  9. Do you focus on failure?
  10. I see the potential or opportunity in my experiences.   ('Not Usually' is a 10, 'Sometimes' is a 5 and 'Usually' is a 0)
  11. Do you compare yourself to others?
  12. When I am in a group, I feel responsible for everyone.
  13. People tell me I am negative
  14. I focus on what can go wrong so I do not get disappointed.

Rate the following statements, 1-10 scale (10 is very very true), for how true they are for you:

  1. I have trouble falling asleep
  2. I fall asleep but can't stay asleep
  3. I can't shut off my mind at night
  4. I wake up tired even though I have had at least 8 hours of sleep
  5. I do  not stop all day long

  8. My joints ache
  9. I crave sugar
  10. I eat fast food more than 4 times a week
  11. I use coffee to wake up and then stay alert
  12. I have gained weight around my middle
  13. I have tightness/pain in my neck and shoulders
  14. I feel like I could jump out of my skin
  15. It is hard to see the positive in anything
  16. I am irritable/angry more than usual
  17. I would rather be by myself
  18. Everything feels like an effort
  19. I never have enough time
  20. I  want to run away
