Alpha Lipoic Acid

The nutrient, Alpha Lipoic Acid, is not talked about much, yet it is safe to take and yields great health benefits such as:

  • energy production,
  • blood sugar control,
  • help to decrease discomfort from Diabetic neuropathy (may need 800 mcg or more a day)
  • supports brain health

Lipoic Acid in involved in the conversion of carbohydrates to energy. As sugar is metabolized to produce energy it is converted to pyruvic acid. When adequately oxygenated, this is broken down by an enzyme containing Thiamine, Niacin and lipoic acid.

Do I Really Need to Take a Supplement

If I eat a good diet do I need to take a supplement?

Listen to what the 74th Congress of the United States had to say way back in 1936:

“No man of today can eat enough fruits and  vegetables to supply his system with the mineral salts he requires for perfect health.”

Fast forward to the 21st Century and most industrial farmers have still not learned this lesson, so year after year soil minerals are depleted.

In 1914 an apple contained almost half the minimum daily requirement of iron but today you would have to eat 26 apples to get the same amount.

Iron is not the only nutrient depleted. In 80 years, apples have declined in the following minerals: calcium has dropped 48%, phosphorous 84%, iron 96%, and magnesium,  good for your heart has dropped 82%.
